SERENITY OF THE GARDEN

“Inspired by nature, I became interested in the architectural detail of flowers, their vibrant color and their moment in time. In my oil paintings, the petals and leaves play within the confines of the painting’s edges, offering a peek into the serenity of the garden. These over-scaled floral portraits draw the viewer into the detail of each flower’s anatomy. In my latest collection of paintings, the flowers emerge as self-aware, persuading the viewer to take part in their role in nature.”

SCALE & IMPACT

Jean Marie’s oil paintings demonstrate great impact, unifying classical and modern elements. By framing them with careful cropping and a large scale, she is able to root the viewer in the perspective of a child in the garden.

Jean Marie draws on techniques from her studies to enhance the impact of her work. Flowing brushstrokes cover the canvas with popping colors. Coats of rich oils convey the three-dimensional nature of delicate petal folds. Chiaroscuro is juxtaposed against the transparency of the flowers, aglow with life. These paintings deliver their most dramatic impact in person, when the push and pull of depth and light allow the flowers to come to life and transcend out of the canvas.
